This was a school project based on Adaptive Re-Use of an old Train depot in Pullman, Wa
This project started with a photograph of train wheels, from that I developed a concept of curved and straight lines, complementing each other through contrast. The train depot was built in the 1900’s, and was to be turned into a residence for a local artist, along with a gallery and artist studio. The artist I chose was Cie Goulet who creates paintings through the art of printmaking.
In this design I wanted to create a craftsman style home for her and her blind spouse. There are also many other examples of this residence being a craftsman home, such as the built in cabinetry, window seats and the lantern style chandeliers. Within the home I also used the idea of complimenting circular and angled lines in the floor plan and in the space itself.
A photograph of train wheels was the inspiration for this entire project. The straight ridgidity of the lines contrasting with the circular pattern of the wheels was intriguing and became my primary focus. The way that these shapes work together through contrast creates a certain harmony that is very harmonious.
