3rd Place - WSU Spokane Campus Design

This project was based on designing a 3rd place for students at the WSU-Spokane campus. A 3rd place is where people can go to hangout, that is not home or work but something in-between. We were given a space that has already been built, and had to work within boundaries given. As i was doing research I found pendant lights that were made from recalaimed traffic light lenses. I used these as my inspiration for the space, creating a theme of a place to STOP SLOW and GO. All of the colors, flow of space, and materials pertain to this overall idea.

Painterly Space

Creating a conceptual enviorment for a psychedelic musician to call their retreat, was the goal of this design.
As my inspiration I used Frantisek Kupka's painting, Disks of Newton. This painting utilizes the idea of color theory, and forms created by changes in color.

From this I created my own conceptual model. With this model I played with the idea of light changing the forms and colors that were already in place. From this idea I applied it to the actual space in terms of using stained glass in places where the sun would hit throughout the day, and because of that the shapes would change depending on where the sun was hitting the glass.

All in all, everything about this space relates back to the idea of overlapping colors, sounds and shapes, and how these all work together in various ways.
