Inspiration to Concept: Process Work

A photograph of train wheels was the inspiration for this entire project. The straight ridgidity of the lines contrasting with the circular pattern of the wheels was intriguing and became my primary focus. The way that these shapes work together through contrast creates a certain harmony that is very harmonious.
Going from a small drawing to an actual pattern was tricky, I wanted to create something unique. I think that by using the module in straight lines, but using the circles also in contrast follows my concept well.The module demonstrates how circular and direct lines work together simultaneously. For the concept model, a circular base was applied, then to incorporate the straight lines into the form, there are square boxes surrounding the circle. Inside each box there are also small swirls that keep with the idea of the curve and square. By using materials that are natural, support the artist who is a painter of natural landscapes.

Using the model created earlier, a textile was next in being created. The textile the pattern incorporates the idea of the straight and curved line.
